Like many women's groups, the Nature Conservation Association of Popenguine, has developed around an economic activity, which allows its members to to provide for their needs. Women work in the Thioupam nature reserve on a voluntary basis, in coordination with the national parks department. They have built a tourist camp "Kër Cupaam" on the edge of the reserve, which provides them with an income. Seven women work there daily, but since the crisis of tourism in Senegal and the area is covered with villas, their income has decreased. What marks the specificity of this initiative is the success of the solidarity and organization of these women, which has lasted for 30 years around the preservation of the environment. Kathy Ndione, refuses to reveal the criteria that make her the president, because she considers herself a simple member of the group.
