Biographie

After working for many years on truth-telling, reconciliation, collective memory, and accountability themes, Louis Bickford launched his first social enterprise, Memria, in 2017. Memria provides software and works with organizations such as libraries and museums to collect, share, and archive personal stories, and has helped to power oral history, community storytelling and « storylistening » initiatives worldwide. Before founding Memria, Louis managed the global human rights program at the Ford Foundation; was the COO of RFK Human Rights; and was Director of the Memory, Monuments, and Museums program at the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ). He also teaches at Columbia University.

More recently, Louis turned his attention to the problem of the invisibility of underrepresented groups on the internet, co-founding Biografika and working with partners such as Invisible Giants (Senegal) and The Visibility Initiative, to make visible the stories of unsung heroes and Sheroes and to increase the discoverability of their inspiring and important work
